Stack of books related to antiracism

Dear GPS Community,

Today is Juneteenth, a day commemorating the abolition of the slavery of African Americans. It is especially important this year as we contemplate actions to combat racism, most especially actions harming Black Americans. Below, you will find the Chancellor’s statement on the significance of Juneteenth.

For our part, this week GPS faculty and staff leaders had a conversation with Dr. Ibram Kendi, the distinguished historian who is the author of How To Be An Antiracist.  The conversation was a fresh starting point for work that will take place over the summer at GPS to address the challenge of anti-racism.

The faculty and I welcome your suggestions on actions that GPS can take to pursue this agenda.  In the days to come we will establish a clearly identified channel to do so, until then, feel free to send them directly to me.
